Dave and Buster’s is a large scale dining and entertainment facility boasting “the most fun you can have under one roof.” This non-traditional “big box retailer” features a contemporary design with a full-service kitchen, a bar complete with 360 degree high definition televisions for sports viewing, over 140 interactive arcade games, and private event spaces that can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. The sleek, modern building design emphasizes state-of-the art technology with large projection screens, video walls and special LED lighting effects.
cm&b began our relationship with Dave & Buster’s on their Manchester, Connecticut location. The project consisted of the ground-up construction of a 26,400 sf light-gauge metal framed building with EIFS exterior finish and glass storefront, constructed on a pad-ready site prepared by the developer. Because this was cm&b’s first assignment for Dave & Buster’s, as well as the first Dave & Buster’s location in the state of Connecticut, the planning for this project was highly involved. The cm&b team was able to adapt and gain a comprehensive understanding of the Client’s program in order to execute the project within a demanding 16 week period.
Following the completion of Manchester, Connecticut, Dave & Buster’s negotiated the 43,000 sf ground-up construction of the Woburn, Massachusetts location. The scope of work included the construction of a 4-acre site including existing soil reconditioning, and expansive parking and landscaping. The two-story building consisted of a below-grade parking garage and first floor entertainment, food/beverage and kitchen facilities. It was built using precast concrete panels, steel framing, EIFS exterior finish and a glass curtain wall grand entrance. The site and building were completed within 40 weeks through one of New England’s record breaking winters.
Soon after negotiating the Woburn project, cm&b was the successful bidder, awarded the fit-up of a new Dave & Buster’s in Pelham Manor, New York. This project ran parallel with the Woburn location and consisted of an interior fit-out of an existing shell tenant space with minor exterior improvements. The fit-out was completed above an existing occupied grocery store and posed challenges to the installation of under-slab utilities which had to be coordinated with the grocer for off-hours work. Dave and Buster’s occupancy was contingent upon the completion of the Landlord’s new entry construction which was entirely under the Landlord’s control. This required diligent planning and coordination between the cm&b project team, the Client and the Client’s landlord.
"For me, cm&b stands for ‘Competent, Methodical & Bullish.’ There is no better way to describe our experience with their team. Competency, Methodology and Bullishness is what it takes to deliver a project effectively and efficiently—while meeting the owner, contractor, subcontractor and local authorities’ expectations. Our relationship with cm&b has been professional and transparent. They have proven that they’re knowledgeable of the business, and their service-oriented approach differentiates them from the rest of the contractors. We select cm&b for our toughest jobs for all these competencies. One more time, cm&b has excelled at delivering very difficult projects, despite challenges that could have resulted in these assignments not meeting the original objectives. The team’s ability to anticipate schedule, cost, local authorities’ approvals, procurement, other tenant and third party vendor coordination, and to anticipate potential issues, has made each project a success. We’re looking forward to many more projects together."
